News from Guatemala

New Member of the Local Committee and Establishment of the Alumni Association ASOFE

We have two important news from Guatemala:

1. New member of the Local Committee, Sigfrido Lee

Guatemalan of Swiss descent, Sigfrido Lee is the new member of the local committee and without a doubt his incorporation will add to the performance of the team. Sigfrido has a widely recognized professional career in Guatemala. He has worked in the areas of economics, research and management of scientific institutions. He is currently an advisor to the Minister of Economy, having been twice a vice-minister.

University Professor in the area of Economics, both in UFM and UVG, both of our associated institutions. He has published several articles and books.

Sigfrido shares with us the love and interest for a high-level university education, the promotion of the ideas of a free market economy and the link with Switzerland.

The Foundation Board in Switzerland warmly welcomes Sigfrido and looks forward to the contribution he will make in favor of our scholars.

2. Constitution of the Association of Scholars and Alumni “SOMOS FUNDACION EDUCACION (ASOFE)”

We would like to share with you the following message from the Guatemalan Local Committee:

“WE ARE PLEASED TO COMMUNICATE ANOTHER ACHIEVEMENT AND GREAT ADVANCEMENT for the Guatemala FE Chapter! Last Saturday, December 5, 2020, after almost 2 years of making the decision, a team of young alumni and scholarship holders, with determination and highly motivated, managed to complete all legal requirements to register the association "SOMOS FUNDACIÓN EDUCACIÓN", by its acronym "ASOFE", both in the Superintendence of Tax Administration and in the Ministry of Government. This will allow that, in the first semester of 2021, we will have an association legally and fiscally registered able to operate.

All those who since November 2019 had attended the Saturday meetings to work on the formation of this association and the election of the Executive Board, signed up to be "founding members". This is how, in the presence of the director of the law firm that is supporting them, we attended the swearing-in ceremony of the first Executive Board of "ASOFE" and the signing of the constitution act by all the founding members. Ricardo Cordero accompanied us during the whole act from Switzerland and as always, his message was edifying.

CONGRATULATIONS FROM THE LOCAL COMMITTEE TO: Víctor Del Cid -President-, Derek Salguero -Vice President-, Erick Cancinos -Treasurer-, Linda Morales -Secretary-, Shirly Cano, Kirien Camposeco and Pamela Godoy -Vocals-.   And to all the founding members for their invaluable support and commitment.
